Surgery Induced Scaring

Earlier this year, I had laparoscopic inguinal hernia surgery.  The mesh did not stay in place but shifted to the base of the penis.  A few months later the original mesh was removed and a new mesh inserted over the hernia via the traditional larger incisions.  Since the first surgery, my erect penis is about half the length it should be.  A urologist suggested the cause of the shortened erection is due to scar tissue similar to Peyronies that developed at the base of the penis from the mesh.  The urologist referred me to a specialist at the Mayo clinic in North Florida that specializes in Peyronies disease and reconstructive surgery.  Although I don't have the disease, I am suffering similarly.  I came across this site and am hoping to find additional helpful information.  If anyone has had a similar situation, I'd certainly appreciate any helpful advice or guidance.

Technically, if you have scarring which affects your erection, you do have "this disease".  You are just well aware of the specific cause, unlike many of us who are left guessing.

Does anyone have any recommendations for, or experience with, doctors knowledgeable in treating this disease in the Florida or Southeast US areas?  Thank you.

If you are looking for a Dr. in Florida, Dr. Broderick at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville.

Dr. Broderick began administering Xiaflex when it was approved for use by the FDA for Peyronies.

I believe that he also performs plication, excise/grafting, and implant surgery.

His bio and list of publications is available on the Mayo site:

Can you give us some more information about Dr. Broderick?
Are thinking he is a good Peyronies specialist?
Some experience with him?

On the Mayo clinic page Dr. Broderick seems to be a doctor with credentials.
Just don't forget that it is a promotional page and no Peyronies treatments are mentioned except:
* Men's health with focus on erectile dysfunction (penile implants)
* Peyronie's disease (reconstructive surgery)

Simply as info in follow up to my prior posts.  Had my mid July appointment with Dr. Broderick at Mayo in Jacksonville.  Was examined and doctor performed a ultrasound.  Finding was had a dense scar at base of penis involving suspensory ligament - which aligns with where mesh from hernia surgery from earlier in the year ended up.  Doctor prescribed Pentox 400mg 2x daily.  And, I have have a follow up in about 6 months for a follow up ultrasound.  Had a good first experience with Dr. Broderick.  Will keep you posted.

You found a good doctor I suppose.
In my opinion 3*400 mg better if you can stand it.
You may want to add low dose Cialis and VED.

Simply as an additional follow up to my prior posts.

Was examined and Dr. Broderick performed another ultrasound in February.  Again, the finding was underlying thickened tissue at the base of the penis that extends to the suspenory ligament.  The thickened tissue was a result of mesh from a prior hernia surgery getting loose and migrating to the base of the penis.  The mesh was later removed in a follow-up surgery but the scaring had already formed at the base of the penis.  As far as the pentox that had been prescribed previously, I think it helped some but not a lot.  I can get an erection and the penis is straight, but it is shortened due to the scar tissue at the base and I do experience discomfort in that area.  Dr. Broderick does not recommend surgery to remove the scar tissue because I am able to achieve a "serviceable" erection and he is concerned about nerves being damaged should surgery be used to remove the scar tissue.  I do think I will continue with the Pentox.  Dr. Broderick classifies my scar tissue as Cutaneous scarring rather than Peyronies.   Had a good experience with Dr. Broderick and would recommend him to anyone in the NE Florida area although I may consider a 2nd opinion on the surgery to remove the scar tissue.

The issue with surgery to remove scar tissue is that surgery itself will induce scar tissue formation.  It becomes a trade off.  Can I remove X amount of troublesome scar tissue and only get Y amount back, Y
