How my congenital curvature healed

I'm 39 years old.  I'm on these forums because of Peyronie's disease which started when I was 38.  However, I thought I'd share my congenital curvature story.  Not sure it'll help anyone (especially those who want fast solutions), but I think it's interesting, for the record.

So when I was about 16 or so years old, I realized that my penis was not shaped normally.  It had a downward banana-like curve during erections.  Not sure what the overall angle was, but it was quite noticeable.

At that tender age I came to the conclusion that it was curved because I had been sleeping every night in "tightey whitey" underwear.  Briefs, that is.  And it was pointing down, toward my feet, as most penises in briefs do.

So I believed that, during nocturnal erections, my penis had no place to go and was being restrained downward by my tight underwear while it was trying to engorge, meaning that the underside was not filling as fully with blood and was therefore not developing.

My solution was to simply point my penis up toward my stomach when I slept.

And here's the thing.  It did straighten out.  But it took about, I'd have to say, 10-12 years to do it.  I remember it wasn't straight when I was 21 because a college girl made fun of it (talk about an emotionally scarring experience).  But by the time I was in my mid- to late-20s it had straightened out basically completely.

So I know nobody wants to wait that long to "correct" a congenital deformity, but I always thought it was interesting that I made that choice around the age of 16, stuck with it for decades, basically, and it did seem to help.

Very interesting. I had a downward banana shape (before Peyronies Disease) and I always wondered if it was caused by wearing tight white underwear to bed every night. Even as a teen I can remember forcing my erection down in my underwear while sleeping or during the day. I never thought to try to switch position. I finally started sleeping nude at about age 22 but by then I doubt it would have mattered. I wonder if other congenital downward curved guys had similar experiences.

That is interesting indeed. I have slept nude since 10 or so...so sleeping has never been the issue. My daytime underwear choice is string bikini. They provide support for my testicles which have been through some serious crap over the years. I'm amazed I ever had children, but this a story for elsewhere.

I had a 45 degrees downwards congenital curve. It developed at like 15 when my penis became thicker it then bended down. Recently got surgery to correct it. Congenital curvature is caused by a scar from birth which then causes it to curve when it grows i'm pretty sure. No idea if what you said is right or not. I mean the penis isn't growing after *20 (that much) i don't see how holding it in a different position would change the penis curve. Did you have some kind of injury or something which may have healed? Then again it wouldn't take 10 years... i know you can fracture it and get a temp curve.
Perhaps the short side of the penis grew and caught up a bit or something?

Please explain further where you got the information that the penis stops growing or does not grow after the age of 10?

My opinion....  I don't agree that white briefs cause a congenital curve. If this was true then a much higher percentage of men would have tight white induced curves.

Congenital by definition means "born this way". I would think most men with congenital curves didn't pay attention or didn't realize they were curved until they hit puberty or saw someone else's erection and then wonder "why doesn't mind look like that".

My opinion.....  I just don't buy the white underwear theory. And yes I wore them as a child. Was the only style Fruit of the Loom sold back them.

Its my understanding the cogenital curve occurs due to uneven portions of erectile tissue, nothing to do with scar tissue...  if what your saying is true in respect to sleeping with your penis up to correct  cogenital curvature, then i can think of this as the same concept of traction, a natural traction if you like....  does traction help for CC, the evidence is limiting.

Special note about the ''brief'' types of underwear:

I had used the boxer style of underwear for many years which led to my testicles being sore since they were not confined to prevent their swinging, etc.

After my radical prostatectomy, I had to wear brief style to hold the incontinence pad in place. I discovered that it also held my dick in a more upward position. This helped immensely with holding my dick in a better position for comfort as well as eliminating the ache that was present when wearing the boxer style, etc.

So, bottom line, I see no reason why wearing the brief style underwear would cause a congenital curve. I understand that these curves are usually caused by a child born with some degree of a natural curve, etc.
Some doctors think it was caused by the position of the fetus while being carried during pregnancy.

nice to read your story "old man".
it looks like as if peyronie's has straightened your penis and not the way you bend your penis
during sleep. how are you going to control that?

As a matter of fact congenital penile curvatures are caused by either a short urethra (especially in
a condition called hypospadias) or by a fibrotic change of Dartos fascia. Both things will eventually
lead to a asymmetrical development of the opposite side of the tunica albuginea. Look it up!

i read everything about congenital curvatures and had mine surgically corrected.

traction does not work for cc. look at the scientific evidence.

nor does sleeping with a bend penis in an upwards position... this is misleading!

i think old man was lucky...

or to put it an a better way... Peyronie's corrected it.

no offence "old man" but i think we should look at your report a bit critical, since
the evidence shows that there is no conservative way to treat cc. even traction therapy
doesn't work, although it has resulted in some betterment in Peyronie's...

ups...
my last post was obviously adressed to steveo
sorry "old man"

hope that this is not misleading now  ;)

@ LWillisjr
i think you hit it right with your comment.
your comment describes my struggle with cc.
i personally think that you start realizing that
smth is wrong when you have your first sexual
relationships...
before that i never realized that smth was wrong with
me.

Looks like only one side of my penis works

Meant to say 20* my bad. And i think Tim's answer is spot on.

Tim_B:

No offence taken by me. My qoute would be: ''whatever works for anyone'' is best. I just know that wearing underwear in any position can not cause a congenital curve/bend. It is caused by whatever happens to a male fetus in the mother's womb or maybe a botched circumcism where too much of the foreskin is removed.

I have a lot experience in the urology by working closely with my personal uro. She, yes she, uses me as her counselor with patients who need a one on one counsel by a male rather than a female. Also, I had a first cousin who was an experienced ''old style country doctor'' who made house calls. I used to drive him on his house calls out in the rural section of my home state. I learned a lot from him about a lot of medical subjects.

Growing old is a privilege denied many

Well, I really have no idea what caused the curve, whether it was "congenital" or acquired as a kid, if it "healed," if it just straightened out over time on its own, or what.  But it went from a banana downward curve at the age of about 15 to straight at the age of about 27. And that was more than 10 years before the Peyronie's kicked in so, no, Peyronie's had nothing to do with the change.

The penis-up sleeping change may have had nothing to do with it. I don't know and will never know. But I do know that the penis did change. Perhaps the penis changes shape throughout life, I'm not really sure.  I'm not going to argue about it -- we all have our theories.  Just thought I'd add another data point.
