Auxilium pulls funding for Voices in Action project
« on: February 03, 2015, 08:28:30 PM »

In mid October of 2014 it was announced that Endo International acquired Auxilium Pharmaceuticals. Since that time Auxilium has been undergoing some corporate restructuring.

Auxilium was funding a project called Voices in Action that was dedicated to raising awareness and promoting knowledge of Peyronies Disease. I know many of our forum members have been contacted by Voices in Action in the past and have offered personal stories and have been interviewed for promotional materials. I know several of the Voices in Action team members and I had the privilege of attending a health summit with Auxilium and VIA representatives in Washington DC last October. They are an outstanding group of people. Over time and through our relationship they have also taken an interest in and routinely monitor our forum. They have told me personally how impressed they are with our openness, dedication, and helpfulness to fellow Peyronies sufferers. We had even started some communication with Auxilium on ways we could partner to promote Peyronies awareness.

I received a call this evening by one of my Voices in Action contacts. He shared with me that Endo International is not able to continue funding the VIA project at this point in time. And that the project would be shut down at the end of this week. My personal feeling is that this is a huge setback to Peyronies awareness. I know of no other organization that is formally chartered with promoting awareness of this life altering disease. I remain optimistic that although the end of VIA is near, that some other formal initiative will hopefully take its place.

I wish my contacts at Auxilium and the Voices in Action project my personal gratitude and wish them well with future endeavors. And that we will remain dedicated to promoting awareness of this disease.

Sad that the only Peyronies Awareness Forum is shut down.
It is instead a big setback to Peyronies awareness.
Sometime, companies overtaking others trying (sadly) just to make much money as they can in short time, don't see the benefit of the awareness for they own long term profit.

Thank you LWillsjr for your public advocacy. It's only a matter of time. Embarrasement involving sexual organs seems to be waning in the U.S., albeit slowly. The commercials i've seen lately about vaginal dryness among other things gives me hope.

Not to be too political here, but once Hollywood accepts male full frontal nudity as equal to female full frontal nudity then it will be easier to talk about. Young adults in the US are not as Puritanical as previous generations, mainly because they have been "exposed" to so much on the internet at a young age. They've also exposed themselves more publicly, whether through snap chat, secret, tindr, grindr, craigslist...a young guy taking a selfie of his dick and sending it via SnapChat or text to a girl or guy he is interested is not that unusual.

I digress. thanks again LWillsr for all you do to educate the public.

They must of had the "accountants" run a cost/benefit analysis, this is a setback, they must not see a profit motive in continuing.  Whats the status on the xiaflex trials and the success of that Lwillis?

You mentioned they monitor the forum & sound like great people.  I wonder what they thought of this, then:

Doctor's and companies should not operate for profit.

We need a fidel castro style overthrow, where we violently force the doctors and companies to change.

Given

Not that everything is negative in a communist dictatorial regime, but I lived in such regime until the end of 1989, it means 41 years.
I can tell you that YES, health care is free, not officially operate for profit, but without bribery you will be treated very very POOR.
You don't want to live your life in such country.

James I prefer our socialist medicare style healthcare and tri-care the best healthcare in the world, where you pay in over the course of your life for coverage that would otherwise be super expensive in old age.  My second choice would be the Canadian system if I had to pick one.  Nothing is free, somebody will pay, for medicare you pay off your payroll taxes while you work then at retirement get the insurance coverage.

I would never want to live in a communist country, there is no due process, rights, etc. we're glad you made it out of there and joined us on the forum!

ComeBacKid

Romania is not a communist country for the last 26 years.
By the way, the best health care systems in my opinion are Belgium, Denmark, Holland, Sweden, Norway.
Of course is not free, you pay all your life some 16% of your salary to get it.

I think that whatever you do for a living should then also be free young GivenUpOnLife. Like Milton Freedman said, i'm not greedy, it's always the other guy who is.
