Erectile dysfunction- pain symptoms about 7 months after injection doppler test

Hello everybody,

I am back here after a short break that I took. It's been 7 months since I did my doppler test examination to test venous leakage, after having an ongoing two and a half year erectile dysfunction problem. The test came clean, however I had some complications after the examination such as: 1. an erection that lasted about 5:30 hours, 2. strong pain at the side of the injection after forceful masturbation 3 weeks after the injection, a small lump( not hard one) at the side of the injection, and on and off pain at the side of the injection in 4 occasions  during these 7 months, a slight curve of the penis when semi-erect starting from the point of the lump.

I have been to 3 different doctors during these 7 months fearing that I have developed peyronies from the injection or the long erection or the forceful masturbation a few weeks after the injection, and all 3 of them have ruled out peyronies as they said there are no significant evidence to justidy peyronies!

However I still do not have a solid explanation for the reason I have this pain, for the reason I have the lump, and for my penis curving a bit( it wasn't like that before) and also giving me some hourglass shape , when it is semi-erect.

One of them suggested the injection might have hit a nerve of the penis and this might be the reason of the pain, but this does not explain the existence of a lump or the slight curve of the penis to the opposite side of the lump.

I would really like to know your opinions and advises on this!

I would also like to ask you if you know something about the effectiveness of low intensity shock wave therapy for treating erectile dysfunction.

I am looking forward for your response.
Thanks in advance!

Andreas,

You're posing a lot of questions that even many Dr.s would struggle to answer.

My advice to you is that you keep the main thing the main thing. If you are able to engage in mutually enjoyable and satisfying sex with a partner, then I would be grateful for that and forget about any deformities, bumps, bends, dents, curves, imagined ED issues, etc.

If you're unable to have mutually enjoyable sex with a partner due to ED, then what have you tried to treat it?

Even if one of us could tell you exactly why you developed the hour-glassing, pain and lump, what good would that be to you? You'd know why, but still have all the problems.

If I were you, I'd focus more on: how do I get rid of all of these symptoms?

Again, I'm not a doctor. This is not a treatment protocol for you. All I can say is that from what I know, VED may help you reduce some of your hour-glassing, pentox might help with the lump, and traction might help straighten the bend.

Keep the main thing the main thing.

welshwales

Quotebut this does not explain the existence of a lump or the slight curve of the penis to the opposite side of the lump.
I'd find it troubling if a uro were unable to give you an answer to these symptoms. A palpable lump and a bend sounds like an absolutely classic case of Peyronies Disease. If I were you I would seek a Peyronies Disease specialist. Forget about the pre-existing ED and Doppler injection etc. Concentrate solely on the above symptoms without confusing the matter. Getting a diagnosis is important, because it means you can begin to start treating what is essentially a progressive disease.

KC2

the doctors said that for peyronies to be diagnosed the ultrasound should show some signs of asbestosis, and also the lump should be hard! My lump is soft for now. Some said that it might be an inflammation that would go away over time, another one said that the injection might injured one of the nerves and caused a permanent sensitivity in that area....I don't know what is it to be honest, and I am not sure they know as well...Yesterday I had sex for the first time, after all this started since July 2014, and it was quite painful...My erection was not as strong as I wanted and also I couldn't control cumming. I only lasted a bit more than a minute inside the girl!..And of course after I came, my penis took a weired curved shape, which happens almost always, after I ejaculate, since July 2014. The weird thing is that the curved shape takes place only when I am semi-erect or just after I ejaculate. When it is fully erect there is no curve...( by fully erect I mean about 80%, because I also have a problem with stifness and rigidity of the penis for more than 2 years now, which was the reason I did the doppler at the first place..)

Andreas, in my experience, if you're already anxious about whether you're going to have pain during erection, at the first sign of pain you go into "panic mode" and that's an erection killer, and also can trigger your premature orgasm issue.  I would not worry too much about this - it's  simply the byproduct of adrenaline flooding your system.

We don't normally associate pain with an erection, so when we do, the mind/body kind of goes nuts.  Don't assume this is going to be the way of the future.

i have a query regarding the plaques... if you have a soft lump like in my case does that mean that it will become hard at some point or is there any chance of going away completely? i have this lump for almost 8 months now....

in general the peyronie's plaques are hard and obvious plaques from the beginning of the onset of the disease or they might start as soft lumps and develop slowly slowly into hard lumps over time....?

I developed a couple soft nodules in Nov. 2013 and have been taking Cialis/Pentox since that time.  Around December of 2014, I noticed the two nodules had shrunk to the point that I really have to struggle to find them now. While they did deepen a couple of pre-existing indentations I have had since about 2008 (and must be the reason for those indentations), they never got hard or calcified, and I am thrilled they have shrunk.  Unfortunately, as soon as they did, a new one popped up in a different place, so I'm right back to the "fingers crossed" stage.  But it's good to know nodules don't always get worse - sometimes they do indeed shrink up.

Nemo..thanks for your response...I am bit confused with your case...Have you ever been diagnosed with peyronies or related problems? or you just have some problems with your penis like lumps and nodules, from some other cause?

Yes, it's Peyronie's. I've been dealing with Peyronies Disease since 2001 when I developed nodules that were quickly followed by a bend.

but now from what I understand, there is no bend anymore and also no serious sexual problems, right?

My bend in 2001 "released" after about a month or 6 weeks, but has left me with a permanent tapering at the glans end, and some glans softness. I adjusted to this and thought I'd survived my run-in with Peyronie's and was done with it.

Since then, I developed a couple mild indentations in 2008 that had no discernible nodules accompanying them. No bending.

And then, as mentioned, in 2013, I developed nodules that seemed to align with the indentations.  Still no bending, but the indentations are somewhat more pronounced, even after the nodules have mostly faded.  And now one more nodule. ...

I've remained functional sexually through it all.

James, thus far, I've considered myself extremely fortunate (as fortunate as one with Peyronies Disease can be) in that I haven't had any bending severe enough to make sex difficult.

What I'm dealing with now are indentations that, so far, haven't become full-blown hourglassing, or diminished the structural strength of my erections. And I am PRAYING it doesn't get worse ... but what's most troubling to me is the knowledge that this condition can lie dormant for 5-10 years and then just suddenly flare up on you for no apparent reason. That gives one to worry.

But as far as treatment, my current treatment is simply Pentox (3x); Ubiquinol; Daily Cialis, and about 6-9 Ibuprofens a day. My main goal at this point is to suppress inflammation and minimize the damage the currently active nodule might do. It remains to be seen if I'll be successful.

Nemo,

Can I ask you how did your doctor diagnosed you peyronies? and are you currently seeing a doctor for this problem?

I have had similar symptoms as you,- after that papaverine injection I had for the doppler test that I did for a pre-exisinting ED problem,- for the last 7 months and I have been to 4 different doctors during this period and none of them said to me that I have peyronies... I even asked them if I have it and they rule it out...all I have in my penis is basically a lump( soft one) on the side of the penis where they put me the injection which causes a little bit of turn of the penis when it is not fully erect, and also some degree of pain during the injection and after ejaculation...the explanations that I got is that the pain maybe is coming from a nerve damage that might caused from the injection, and would need a lot of time to go away...and about the lump, the explanation that I got is that lumps come and go on ones penis often...also my erections have become a bit less strong, and not as frequent...I don't what to believe to be honest...

*by the way you mention something about ''nodules'', I know what is a lump but what is nodules on a penis?
30 years old, experienced penile scarring after an injection that caused a 6-6:30 hour erection while 25

I use the terms "nodule" and "lump" interchangeably. Any sort of firm area.

In 2001, when I first developed Peyronies Disease, my Uro simply felt my nodules and told me it was Peyronie's. Just a few days later, the bend formed and my nocturnal erections became painful, so there was certainly no question he was right.

I suppose it's possible that you don't have Peyronies Disease but rather a hematoma, caused from bleed and swelling in the tissue following your shot. Has anyone done an ultrasound on your penis to determine exactly what the lump is?

yes..they did ultrasound, and they told me there are no signs of peyronies disease...but the lump is still there...

If multiple docs told you that you don't have Peyronies Disease, I think you can breathe easier. You may in fact have some tissue damage that's not Peyronies Disease, and if so, good reason to hope it will eventually just heal and go away.

KC2

Nemo,

I hope this is the case...My main problem is the quality of my erections which have not been optimal( as strong as it used to be) for the last 2.5 years, and they became worst last 7 months after that stupid injection....also note that I am only 26 years old, and my sexual life has been deteriorated over this period...hope this would get better as well...

But your case does not seem bad at all...since there is no bend now, no pain, and just a nodule as you describe it, why don't you describe yourself as peyronie free now? what is the problems the nodule is causing you?
30 years old, experienced penile scarring after an injection that caused a 6-6:30 hour erection while 25

nemo

I will always carry scar tissue that limits blood to the glans and causes a slight taper at the head-end. For this reason alone, I will always consider myself to be a "sufferer" of Peyronie's Disease.

But I have no doubt the lesions/nodules I've had in the last year (and currently) are Peyronie's inflammation, as evidenced by the indentations that became deeper.  What the current lesion will do remains to be seen.

So given all this, there's no way I could claim to be "Peyronie's free."

KC2

Nemo,

I believe I have a scar tissue as well, because of the lump that I have and which is causing me pain....Does lump mean definitely that you have a scar tissue? How can a doctor diagnose for sure whether you have a scar tissue or not?r
30 years old, experienced penile scarring after an injection that caused a 6-6:30 hour erection while 25

nemo

Unfortunately, you're asking questions that highlight the uncertainty surrounding Peyronie's Disease in general. Remember, medical science still isn't exactly sure what causes this "disease" or how to cure it.

A lump is at the very least inflammation of tissue. Whether this is in the process of forming lasting "scar tissue" or not, I couldn't say. Whether it already is scar tissue, I also couldn't say.

One of the most frustrating aspects of Peyronies Disease is that we all want definite answers about what we have and what it will lead to, and I'm afraid in many cases, we just can't get those answers.

I think the most precise way to determine what's going on in the penis is through ultrasound, where masses/nodules/scar tissue/calcification show up.  Just making a call based on what you feel with your fingers amounts to basically an educated guess.  I would say that for the majority of us (as Peyronies Disease sufferers) a nodule is inflamed scar tissue.

KC2,

Nemo was sharing some real wisdom when he wrote:

"One of the most frustrating aspects of Peyronies Disease is that we all want definite answers about what we have and what it will lead to, and I'm afraid in many cases, we just can't get those answers."

We all know this feeling and I understand why you are looking for definite answers, KC2, but as Nemo says, as much as we might want to, none of us can give those to you.

If the treatment options for your ED are A, B and C, then whatever your specific diagnosis is, the treatment options are still A, B and C. If A, B or C work for you, then you'll have found a solution.

What is available is what is available. Start trying things to improve your situation.

Careful trial and error is actually a good approach. (Just make sure that you do your research and avoid trying things that could make the situation worse.) Once you start trying things, you'll probably start to feel better, and if you find something that works for you, you'll have the weight of the world off your shoulders and will feel great.

I have moved in France since the beginning of the year, and I decided to see a doctor here, which is considered a top urologist, regarding the situation with my penis. He gave me some bad news and some good news. He said to me that his is 100% sure that I do not have peyronie's disease, but his explanation for the lump that I have on the left of my penis was that it is probably a small scar tissue  because of the papaverine injection that I had, and it would probably stay there forever... He said, that even if it's a scar tissue it doesn't mean that it would create any permanent problems to my penis functionality, and he is mostly sure that it won't...He said that the negative changes that I feel with my erections after the injection, are mainly due to psychological reasons related to the existence and the feeling of the lump...His explanation for the pain that I feel in the area of the lump was that it would probably be a tiny inflammation that it would dissolve completely over time...

However given the changes in my erections in the period after the injection, the pain, and the confirmation of the existence of a scar tissue on my penis, makes me feel worried....I would like to know more of what it means to have a scar tissue and the consequences in daily and sexual life...I am looking forward to hear more about this from you....

Guys,

I am back here after a while!

I have some questions regarding scar tissues in general. As you remember I developed a scar tissue after having an injection of papaverine for a Doppler test, for an ongoing ED problem I had.

Almost one year after, the scar tissue is still there and I feel it easily when me penis is erect. It feels like a trough and then a crest (lump) on the side of my penis (low at the base of the penis). There is no curvature of the penis when erect. However the main problem is that my erections have become even worst and less frequent than before and also  I feel that my penis has lost some of its elasticity especially on the side of the scar ( it feels a bit painful when erect and a bit shorter but nothing dramatic).

Is there any hope of making the scar tissue any better, one year after, and improving my erections and elasticity of my penis?
Even more is there any hope for the scar tissue to disappear completely at some point ?

I am looking forward for your recommendations and responses.

Thanks in advance!

Hello! I read your posts, and as to peyronies i can't say much on what to do and there are others here that might advise you better.

As for erectile dysfunction, unfortunately i have been reading a lot since summer 2014, when i fractured my penis. I now suffer from moderate erectile dysfunction and i am also getting worse as times passes by. Although E.D. induced by trauma to the penis is a different situation from E.D. that gradually starts "out of nothing", like you state your erection quality is starting to suffer, to fully access why you have problems, you need to do several diagnostic exams; eco doppler, cavernosometry/cavernosography, pelvic angiogram, noctural erection test, blood tests E.D. specific. There are pros and cons to making the exams, but if you really want to know what is happening with your penis they have to be done. There is a clinic in london, with very well known doctors by forum members, where apparently you can go and get a proper diagnosis. Erectile Dysfunction | London Andrology Institute Take some time, and read all the tabs on the left.  E.D. Can also be an indication of cardiovascular problems!

P.S: And my response assumes, that you don't have peyronies like several doctors told you...

KC2

pfract,

Thanks for your response! I know that I do not have peyronies disease but I also know that I have a scar tissue on the side of my penis which causes a bit of pain ( both when erect and non erect)  and has also made my erections worst ( the most important problem). I would like to know more about people getting scarring on their penis from injections ( especially papaverine) and the effects and development of this scarring in the long term. It has already been a year since that stupid injection and it seems that it left me with a permanent problem (penis scar)...If any person on this forum had a similar experience, getting a penis scar from a penis injection, I would really like to come in contact with him and discuss about it!

Thank you

Old Man

Anytime a needle is injected into the penis shaft for any reason, it is subject to leaving a scar. For instance, Verapamil injections (12 of them) left a nodule or small scar for me when I had them way back in the prostate cancer surgery days.

So, any foreign object punturcing the corpora or skin area of ones penis is subject to scarring, nodules and maybe plaque.

The above is my observations over the past 20 plus years of penile problems.

Old man,

Now I know, but it is too late! I cannot take time back and change this. Before I do it I was too desperate and miserable about my bad erections and wanted to to do every single test, including Doppler, although most of the doctors had told me it wasn't necessary. I unfortunately listened to the two that told me to do it.

But anyway, my question now is what to expect in the long term from this? Is there any possibility for the scar tissue to change in a positive away? I mean to become more even, and stop affecting my erections? Also what will determine if the scar will remain elastic or become inelastic? Or is this just luck?

There is chance the scar tissue will change to positive way.
I am saying that based on my own experience and from what I am reading on the forum.
Even I made no treatment for 3 years from the onset of my Peyronies, my calcified plaques became soft to the level that when I made the PRP injections was easy to the doctor to inject into the plaques.
My treatment was mainly VED, Pentox and low dose Cialis.

James,

I have taken anti-inflamattories just after the pain started for a few weeks, a few weeks after the injection, and it did not help at all...Right now I am just taking a few supplements, like L-carnitine, L- arginine, CQ10...However to be honest I don't see any of them making any difference either...

Low dose Cialis helps me to have better erections and be able to have sex, but it doesn't have any long term change on my scar/penis problem...I was wondering whether it is realistic to expect any long term positive change on this, or just accept that I will have this scar forever including any accompanying problems...Are there any scientific reports regarding penis scars and how to improve them?
I was also wondering whether lifestyle changes can help change a penis scar in a positive way?

Looking forward to hear the opinion of more of you and also your stories, whether they are supportive on not....

my opinion, in the most non offending, non arrogant way possible, based on your posts, is that you only seem worried about the scar going away and not the ED itself. There are things a doctor can do, to help you diagnose your condition that don't involve needles you know? :)

KC2

Pfract I care about both!

and most certainly about getting over my ED problems...I am just having regrets for a year now for doing that doppler examination at the first place, which makes me feel awful (as it gave me the scar tissue)...I have done an ultrasound recently ( no needles) and the doctor said he can not see or feel anything wrong with my penis...He said in order to be able to see in more detail I would need to do a penis MRI which involves injection again, something he doesn't recommend himself as well.. He said even if there is a scar ( which I certainly feel when I have an erection) it would be too small to create any significant problem...However I keep having occasional pain, a very slight curve sometimes, and worst erections than before in general...I don't know if there is anything else I can do or a doctor can do to diagnose my condition right now better....

Recommendations again are welcome!

Fair enough. But have you read the link that i gave you? It has a lot of information there, and like it was said here before, you can easily get to london, or arrange for an online consultation with the doctors, via Skype at a fair price. 200 eur +/-. You can test the nocturnal erections, you can do blood tests, and you can try to make sure your condition has no psychological relation. But it's a good thing, if you've had an ultrasound and nothing was found. It MAY be an indication that you have "vascular ED" or "neurological"....

It is a good sign that the doctor can't see the plaque with the ultrasound.
It seems that the progression of the disease has stopped in your case. :)

A little bit patience.  :)
I am sure that if someone had an answer was answering already.
In my opinion, it can happen because while standing the blood flows down more easy and remain less to fill the penis. I may be wrong  :). Check your blood pressure and hearth bit. Maybe too low.
