How damaging is it to wait for treatment?

Hi,
I am new here and still working my way through the large volume of information.
My husband first noticed a lump maybe 2 years ago.   Several months later he went for a consultation for a vasectomy (he hasn't had it yet) and the doctor told him he had Peyronie's, just take vitamin E.  My husband made it sound like no big deal.  Then we started having sex less frequently - down to like once every 3 months.  I started to wonder if something was wrong with our relationship and asked him so (he laughed it off).  Gradually I noticed more and more physical changes in his penis and started to research Peyronie's.  I told him about the wealth of info online.  I told him about the specialist in our area.  I told him about these support forums.  He has done nothing, I know he's in denial.

However right now I'm more worried about the potential for some much more serious health problems (a significant family history of developing diabetes, right around the age he is now; and he doesn't take great care of himself).  I'd rather he address that first.  But by him delaying treatment for the Peyronie's, how much damage is he doing?  I read somewhere that early treatment is really important (it's probably too late for that anyway).  But I'm also afraid if I push him to address the Peyronie's, he'll ignore what he needs to do to get healthier and prevent diabetes.

I'm glad you all are here and supporting each other, I think this website and the forums are great.  Thank you for being here.

We have a woman only board not accessible to male members.
You may get access from Christine or LWillisjr
Send them a PM.
Regarding your husband, you are right, he is in denial, like many of us were.
2 years are not too long time, you may want to read on the forum what are the available treatments.

You don't say how old your husband is, but I'm assuming he's no youngster?

Yes, you're spot on in both of your assertions. He needs to get his head out of the sand, start taking better care of himself, etc. Does he not realise that diabetes can be a killer, if left untreated?  There is also a fairly well established link between diabetes militis and peyronies, so it may well be the case that he has developed it.

It's difficult to say how much, if any damage he's doing to his Peyronies by his refusal to seek treatment, but he certainly isn't helping it, or himself.  He must be made aware of the link between Peyronies and diabetes. As James has said, he needs to drop the denial.

Re the Peyronies, he needs a referral to a competent urologist. Vitamin E won't hurt him, but will do next to nothing for Peyronies. An ultrasound is the first step to establish the extent of the plaque. I would also suggest, that assuming he can be actively engaged in being proactive, that he reads as much as he can on this site about the disease and it's treatment. Not all urologists are proficient in treating Peyronies - you need one who is. You can find a list of well regarded Uros here on the site.

I realise what a difficult situation you are in and wish you luck in persuading him to act. He's lucky that he has a partner who cares enough about him to do what you're doing. Good luck to you.

As James and Jon have said, your fella needs to accept that this is really happening, and it is very unlikely to get better by itself. There is one word which scares pretty much any man into action, and that is penile SHRINKAGE, or atrophy in medical terms. No guy wants to see his cock shrivel up, getting shorter and thinner, but it is a sad fact that it happens to many men with Peyronies Disease. So, act sooner to try and prevent the disease taking something away that can't be regained. Loads of guys on here have lost a couple of inches, some even more. Get a VED, read up on how to use it properly on the VED board. A VED must be used moderately, responsibly and regularly.
The damage in waiting, from doing nothing? Penile atrophy.
