Ok I need some advice perhaps or help on what to do. I'm extremely nervous and getting more by the second. Is surgery painful at all? During surgery I mean. I'm contemplating suicide just not to deal with this.

Ok I forgot to mention , I'm at 80% bend or curvature and the plaque or whatever is right at the tip of my shaft so implant is not an option. With Xiaflex the improvement is 13 to 17% which would leave me at 65% or so, and surgery would put me back at 25 -30%. But is surgery painful?? Please help me make this decision. I have 6 weeks to find out if my insurance will cover the $25,000 bill con Xiaflex. Thank you

Hi Silver Fox -

Firstly, please put aside any thoughts of suicide. Everyone here understands the stress and potential for depression associated with Peyronies Disease, but 1) life is much more than a straight dick and 2) there is a very good chance that your condition can improve.

Secondly, who told you that Xiaflex will only improve you 13-17%? If you have been following my posts, you'll see that I have experienced an 87% improvement in curve over 5 injections. That may be an extreme outcome, and I might be lucky, but the average improvement in the Xiaflex study was 34%, and reliable reports are that in practice the average is probably better than that.

Thirdly, whereas every medical procedure carries risk, surgery will definitely shorten your penis. And general anesthesia comes with other potential complications. Assuming the insurance covers your injections, and if Xiaflex doesn't give you the results you desire, you can always opt for surgery.

Count my vote for Xiaflex, and best of luck to you.

Thank you so much for replying. I will search and follow your posts. It's just all of this is really new to me. And I have other conditions that I am really focusing on-type 1 diabetes-and it just seems like this is all getting overwhelming for me. Thanks Mending-the-Bend. I appreciate it.

Ok Hi Mending-the-Bend. I just read through a lot of your posts and how surprising to me that I am speaking to the same doctor as you are, Mulhall. He has suggested xiaflex as well as plication as an alternative. But after reading what you've been saying and how well it's been going for you I think that I am going to talk to Mulhall the next time and things are leaning in a good direction towards the xiaflex. I hope my insurance will cover it. I really appreciate your info and honesty. Thanks.

And who told you to rule out an implant? Everyone's situation is different, so you need to be careful what you read. There are other factors to consider so even if your curve is right at the tip doesn't rule out an implant. Learn what you can here but consult a specialist who knows how to treat Peyronies.
