Good Day Fellow Forum Members:

Thank you for having me here.

I was diagnosed about two months ago. Me, 38 years old and otherwise healthy. Good diet, exercise, gainfully self employed etc. My father had severe Peyronie's to the degree of receiving an implant so looks like I'm in it for the long haul. Thus far, I have only one plaque on my left hand side near circumcision which is causing a 45 degree bend.

Urologist prescribed me Pentox 400Mg x 3 times per day. Upon starting the regime I immediately noticed the following side effects:

1. - Increased Anxiety and a bit of nausea. Difficulty focusing.
2. - Faster than usual heartbeat, jitters
3. - Weight gain. I've put on close to ten lbs. since I started taking this stuff
4. - Insomnia, I've always been a bit of an insomniac but the racing heart doesn't help either.

Anyone else experienced these symptoms? I scoured the forum without finding much...Worst part is I haven't noticed any improvements yet, how long does is it take for this stuff to kick in?

Thanks for your support.

There are numerous possible side effects to taking Pentox. Personally, I experienced the increased anxiety, but that went after a short while as my body grew accustomed to the drug.

It's possible that the anxiety has caused the increased heart rate?

Weight gain, I did not experience that. I am a regular gym user, though. Gastric problems are very common with Pentox. Never take it on an empty stomach.

If you are experiencing problems sleeping, try not to take the last dose within some hours of going to bed. Try to take it as early as you can.

Most side effects, for most people, will lessen or go with time. Stick with the Pentox, if you can. It is about the only proven effective drug for improving the plaque associated with Peyronie's

Lastly, read as much as you can on this site. You have found the right place and here is a wealth of accumulated knowledge about this disease here.

Did you start out a 3X a day, or did you ramp up more slowly? 1200 mg per day would be a heavy dose to start at. I've been workng my way in, and after several days I'm still only at 2 doses per day.

Personally, so far it reminds me of those 'non-drowsy' allergy medicines. It makes me a little fuzzy and lethargic (I think it's lowering my blood pressure...which is okay). It makes my sleep lighter, but doesn't keep me awake. Makes me a little 'buzzy,' and a little nauseated, like a large dose of B vitamins.

I guess I might interpret those sensations as anxiety. But I used to take a lot of drugs in my misspent youth, so I'm pretty good at backing up and telling myself when it's just the drug talking.

Like Jonbinspain, my guess would be that the accelerated heart rate comes from letting it make you feel anxious.

I certainly haven't experienced weight gain. Much the opposite; my body seems to be dumping water weight like crazy.

I find that blowing off energy physically helps. I do heated power yoga, which is not only energetic, but also gives a little of that yoga relaxation...

I'm a newbie here too, and I haven't been able to scour all of the possible info on Pentox, but how long before seeing results seems to vary tremendously. I've had at least two people tell me (via PM) that they started to see definite results after 30 days. Some people had reduction in pain even sooner than that. But some people have taken it for many many months with no real change. (Of course, that may mean that it stopped the progression.) No one knows for sure what the variables are--but the consensus is earlier treatment is better, so you should be optimistic.

To reduce side effects of Pentox:
Start with one per day, increase after one week to two and one more week to three.
Take  it with meal, last not later than 18:00 PM

Thank you Gents for taking the time to comment on my introduction...

I've pulled the dose back to two pills a day, one at breakfast and one at lunch. This seems to help. And just as most of you have experienced, I think my body is starting to get used to the drug as well. Also started throwing in some vitamin E for good measure. I'm going to stick with this regime for the next few months and see how things go.
