So I went with my girlfriend on Friday to see a Russian urologist that had been recommended to her.  Not for Peyriones specifically but general urology.  This doctor works at a big flashy clinic and also has his own private one.  We went to his private clinic.  It was in an old community centre with a gym and some other businesses.  Very clean and perfectly modern.  He doesn't speak any English but some French.  We talked a little in French but my medical French is nearly non-existent so most was in Russian.

He asked my history and what had happened.  My girlfriend explained.  I then wrote down for him all the things I am taking.  Supplements and drugs.  He thought it was a good treatment.  Then he examined me.  Next started a very long discussion in Russian.  I have really been fighting despair since getting this condition but at times I was nearly laughing at the situation.  My Russian is not very good but I can understand a little.  At one point he told my girlfriend that during treatment we should not have sex.  The look on her face was priceless.  She starts arguing with him about western sites reporting that erections are good so what is wrong with him... :)  He basically described it to her... if you get a cut on the palm of you hand and you keep using your hand, it takes a very long time to heal.

I also learned that apparently Rasputin is believed to have this condition and that his penis was shaped like an 'S' and that women liked it.

So the crux of what he said is as follows:

  • My injury is fresh and that if I treat it within the next couple of months I should have a very good chance of mostly recovering.  He was very definite that waiting to begin treatment is a bad idea.  That everything is much harder the older the scar tissue.
  • That much to my girlfriend's displeasure, I should rest my penis until the inflammation reduces.
  • He would need me in Moscow for 3 to 6 weeks.  Treatment is injections of cortisone and prostaglandin every other day to reduce the inflammation and the other days with ultrasound and laser therapy to help reduce the scar tissue
  • They would do a diagnostic ultrasound every week to track the progress.
  • He doesn't recommend VED until after the treatment but felt it is good after the inflammation is under control.
  • Eat a low inflammation diet and get lots of rest

So what do you guys think?  It seems a more intensive treatment than I have seen.   I would have to take some time off work but I am really considering it.  We spent over 30 minutes with him and he only charged me 1200 rubles which is about 20 British pounds.  A months worth of treatment would be about 500 pounds but I would also need to factor in a loss of salary.  To put things in perspective, the urologist in London I found online charges 300 pounds for a consultation.  So far the NHS has been completely useless and will not refer me to a urologist for at least a year.

In my opinion the doctor have some positive points, the most:
QuoteHe was very definite that waiting to begin treatment is a bad idea.
About the treatment itself, is a very intensive one as you say, but we have just one member from this huge country, also not active now, so maybe this treatment is something that works.
By the way, you have asked hik how many mane he treated in this way and what was the success rate?

That's exactly what logic tells me. If a Peyronie's scar is not elastic (because elastic fibers are being replaced by type I and type III collagen ones), wouldn't an erection compromise the surrounding tissue making the damage, and therefore the scar, grow?

In my humble opinion, I think VED should be suggested once the acute phase have ended and the fibrotic plaque has stabilized, specially indicated if the patient presents erectile dysfunction.

By the way, you can be proud of having such a supportive and assertive partner. She must be a great backing for your psyche.

Good luck Mack62!

I don't agree with your opinion Caesar regarding:
QuoteI think VED should be suggested once the acute phase have ended and the fibrotic plaque has stabilized
The aim of using VED in the acute stage together with Pentox and low dose Cialis is to stop the development of the plaques and soften them. When the plaques are already there and some or maybe most calcified, this target is much more difficult, in some cases impossible.

I am.  She is like a fierce mama bear when anything threatens something she loves :)

I asked him about the chance of success.   He said based on past experience with others, he thinks my chance of being nearly good as new after treatment are better than 80%.  By this he elaborated that I should be able to be nearly straight again but might have a little dent on my penis.  I didn't ask how many he has treated.

Hi Mack62

How did it work out for you? Are you still in Moscow? I am looking for a good doctor in Moscow so would be interested to know what happened to you back in 2014.

Thanks
K
