Injury or disease?

Hi All Chuckleft here

Trying to find information about this problem has been a little frustrating..
everything i encounter discusses this issue as a disease, something that just develops in people.
My condition was brought on by an injury, it was a very clear cut event.
riding my motorcycle from the store i put a package in my lap and hit a bump and got hit with a can.
right after i had a hard lump where i got hit and a bending and some soreness there.

Most of the treatment options talk about a progressive disease...and resulting a plaque problem
I know that these days everything is seen as a disease even breathing it seems and they have a pill for that *rolls eyes*

But what of injury? and is this treated differently....
I thought after time mine would just heal and clear up but that has not happened it got a little better but now has just stabilized.
the lump is the same and the curve is the same..When i feel carefully around and looked up the structure of the system there it seems its in the second layer the blood supply sheath that goes over the expandable foamy structure (sorry for the laymen terms ill try and look up the jargon on this)

SO MY question is WHEN is it seen as an injury instead of a disease or are all "injuries" considered disease's by the medical establishment..
seems to me they are vastly different and would require completely different approaches...

any thoughts? Love to hear from some of the medical professionals here too....Hopefully some that can think outside that box...

cheers

Injury is not Peyronies.
Injury may cause Peyronies in some cases.
In those cases, people are ending on the forum (some of them) because the injury started Peyronies disease.

James
Age 71, Peyronies from Jan 2009 following penis fracture during sex. Severe ED.
Lost 2" length and a lot of girth. Late start, still VED, Cialis & Pentox helped. Prostate surgery 2014.
Got amazing support on the forum

Chaz,

The textbooks will state that Peyronies is triggered by trauma, by an event. The disease aspect might be better thought of what condition or deficiencies exist that make this trigger in some men and not in others. The same impact that triggered this in you, might not trigger it in someone else. I agree that initially I also struggled with referring to this as a disease as mine was also triggered my some type of trauma. But regardless, maybe one day we will understand what causes it. The real issue now is once it occurs by whatever mechanism, how do we treat it. You will find much information here on that topic.

Its all more or less the same.
The trauma/injury is met with a reaction from the body that causes abnormal tissue.

The reaction depends on the invidual. For some all similar trauma heal bad in the body but for some its just the penis that causes problems.
I think this is due to its unique mechanic of erection and beeing outside of the body.

Think of a trauma to your arm. Its all the time met with heavy bloodflow and you can rest it in its position. A rather easy task for the body to heal.
Penis is always in motion nad soemtimes lacks bloodflow.
Basicly the worst part on the body to heal anything.

My peyronie's began with trauma, namely surgery and a botched emergency catheterisation. There was no sign of the disease before then. I can understand the confusion between penile curvature due to injury or from an apparently spontaneous erroneous build up of plaque leading to a deformity. But whatever the trigger might be, it is still classified as a disease. I know the word has so many negative connotations, especially in regard to genitalia. Nobody wants to think they have a diseased penis! I've often thought it would be more appropriate to describe Peyronies Disease as a syndrome. But in the end, it's just words. Medical terminology is quite inconsistent in regard to common language. A wonky penis is still a wonky penis, no matter the cause. We are all in the same boat.

Yes dont get hung up on the word. In germany they use Induratio penis plastica.

If to use a word I would rather describe it as a condition.

Its just the best way the body could react under the circumstances presented to him by us and the enviroment.

Thanks all that answered.
The reason i see some clear differance is if the disease is caused by some other medical condition that could also use treatment...im assuming than by some of the responces that its already brought on by trauma..
I think accuracy on description would be importent in how you would form a course of action.. As in if your body is also creating in some cases the inability to disolve fiberous acumulation....A known condition treated by a drug i see mentioned for that and also for pyronies.
If your body is producing scar tissue at the sligtest cause of injury should that not also be part of a treatment of repair and would that not be a different formula or ragime?

I too believe that "disease" might be misleading.  It is more of a "disorder", which may be caused by any number of things individually or in combination.  If it is accompanied by Dupuytren's contracture in might be a "disease" in the traditional sense.  If not, I consider it more of a "condition" or "disorder"...but let's not get hung up on labels.
