so I started taking Pentox today. I was prescribed to take 400 milligrams 3 times a day. After my first dose about two to three hours into it I started having anxiety. I already have severe anxiety problems and I'm afraid this medicine is making it worse. I'm wondering if I should continue taking it or if I should get off and start taking the other supplements that people are recommending. I know this medicine is my best shot I getting some kind of relief so I'm torn on what to do. has anyone else had a bad anxiety after taking this medicine and what did they do that helped? Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.

jles1,

Yes, I experienced anxiety while taking Pentox as well. I am already a nervous person and pentox will exacerbate that. The active chemical in pentox has a structure very close to caffeine and will often have the same effects like making you jittery or minor stomach upset.

These effects are mitigated by taking pentox with meals, spacing the dosages 4 hours apart and not ingesting caffeine. Exercise also helps burn off nervous energy.

If you can, stay on pentox for as long as you can stand it. I took it for 8 months and it got rid of my pain in a matter of weeks and I saw physical improvement in a matter of months and have continued to heal even after stopping the drug.

Another option is to take 800 mg (2 x 400 mg pils) per day instead of 1200 mg (3 x 400 mg pills per day). I believe the Iranian pentox study found this lower dosage to still be effective.

Hang in there!

I will second Skjaldborg
In my opinion you should start 400mg per day, get over the side effects and then increase to 800mg, later to 1200mg.

OK thanks guys! I'm going to hang in there and continue taking it but i will only be taking it once a day for a few weeks then i will try to move up to 2 and so on. I believe i may just not be used to this extra energy. Another question i had was about stopping Pentox. Has anyone had any kind of withdrawl from discontinuation of this drug? I have had severe reactions to getting off melds in the past and i am very afraid of becoming chemically dependant on Pentox and having to suffer the effects of withdrawl when i am able to stop taking it. Again thank you so much for your time.

Jles,

Pentox should not cause any withdrawal symptoms. It does not do the things that addictive medications do like opiates. Pentox is a blood thinner and makes the red blood cells "squishy" so they can fit into smaller capillaries to better oxygenate tissues.

I had anxiety on pentox and that is partly why I stopped taking it after a month and a half.  I have never heard of anyone having withdrawal symptoms though, and I did not have any.
