Excision and graft surgery

If anyone has had excision and graft surgery, please let me know your experiences with it. I have peyronies which causes me to bend left at a 40 degree angle with a narrowed "hinge" when erect.  I have started having some mild pain during sex which is gradually getting worse. Unfortunately, the plaque has calcified, making me a bad candidate for the new injection treatment. After giving medications a try, my urologist recommends surgery to excise the calcified plaque and replace it with grafts from my scalp.  I am in my late 40s and have good blood flow to my penis with no erectile problems.

I am very interested in the responses you get on this post. It sounds like we have very similar circumstances. Has your surgeon performed this operation before? I was told by my urologists that these grafts often leak and he recommended going with an implant along with the grafts. Did you have any such discussions with your doctor?

Best of luck!

I think you should get an additional opinion. I also think from what I have learned that excision have (relatively to incision) a high rate of ED as a result of nerves damages.
If you decided to go under knife, be sure your surgeon has done hundreds of such surgeries already.

Thanks for your responses.  My doctor doesn't think I'll need an implant, but maybe I should question him and others further about that.  He checked my blood flow with Doppler to make sure I have no current ED problems. The urologist I am seeing was referred to me by another urologist as a Peyronies expert.  He was one of the doctors who did the Xiaflex clinical trials. But I agree it is definitely worth getting second or third opinions. It is my penis after all.

Definitely get another opinion from one of the great doctors.  DO NOT have a excision and graft surgery if you have any form of ED.  I know of some that did and had to have an implant within a year.

A great implant surgeon, with lots of  peyronies experience, can solve the problem with an implant and modeling.  Once you have a excision and graft a length expanding implant will not help over come any loss of penile size.

I had excision and grafting performed by Dr. Levine. I have had no issues since. He straightened my curve from 70 degrees upward to straight again. Surgery was in 2008, and still no ED issues.
