Risks of giving up treatment

I have quit taking pentox and using the VED.  I see no change and I saw no improvement from using them.  I am single and 59 years old and am considering giving up on all treatment and on my sex life as I knew it. I have ED as well and it seems no matter what I do I can never have intercourse anyway...so masturbation or oral sex is the trade off.  I have always had difficulty with intercourse anyway except with Viagra and only without condoms and I am HIV positive so that is a rare occurrence that happens with mutual consent with an HIV + partner. I just want to make sure that it will not cause other difficulties such as urinating in the future.

I tried Pentox for 8 months and used the VED for three months.  The Pentox is challenging for me with my stomach and remembering to take it around meals.  I am non several other meds that I have a regular routine that works.  the VED is difficult to spend the time standing and seemingly getting no results.  Just curious If I am able to live with this will it cause more serious problems in the future...anyone know or can advise?  thanks

Hi JWS,

Sorry the treatments didn't work. You mention ED that doesn't respond to meds in your post; have you had that evaluated by a urologist? Severe underlying ED would likely make pentox not very effective as erections and circulation are important for making it work.

Given your ED and Peyronie's symptoms, you may be a candidate for a penile implant. You should discuss this option with an experienced implant surgeon. There are several mention on the forum. Furthermore, user JackP is the resident expert on implant surgery. I'm sure he can answer your questions better than I can. I do not know if HIV status affects implant surgery outcomes; that is something you would need to discuss with your surgeon.

You are not out of options.

I will second Skjaldborg.
You are just 59 and should not give up.
Read all the testimonies on the forum regarding implant and you will see how happy are the people that have done it.

Do Not give up on sex!!!! From what I read you may be a candidate for a penile implant.  You need a consultation with one of the great implant doctors.  Your sexual orientation should not be a problem, just let them know you are HIV positive when you fill out the paper work.

Any questions I will be happy to answer.  Send me an email and I will foreward some information on implants to you.

Remember never - ever ever give up.

It all depends on how you've come to view your sex life. Some people may be able to live perfectly well with masturbation and oral sex, others may feel incomplete without intercourse. If you are comfortable with what you have it may be that you should not concern yourself beyond that point.

As for if/when to stop taking treatments and concerns about a worsening of the condition, I would say that's a situation we've all been in. I took pentox for years around the time of what I think was a new bout of peyronie's. I do feel that it helped. From what I can tell it's a very safe medication, so where men can stomach the side effects, I see the benefit of doing so. The same with VED and traction where progress can be made. If you are okay with where you are right now, I would suggest that using a VED a few times a week still wouldn't be a bad idea and could keep your penis healthy and help stop worsening of the condition.

If you're not happy with where you are right now though, I'd follow up with jack. That could be the answer you're looking for. Keep your chin up!
