I was curious as to how members received their Verapamil injections? I've repeatedly read online that the penis is injected w/ a medication to cause an erection. But when I spoke w/ my doctor he informed me that he performed the injections w/ the penis in a flaccid state. Any comments would be helpful.

Turin099:

The VI injections can be done either way - with a shot to reduce the pain before injection of the Verapamil or just stick the old needle in bare back. It is a rather small sized syringe needle so in my case, I elected to not have the pain killer. That way, the small amount of pain quickly subsides and the risk of having two injections sites are reduced. This causes less hematoma if one should occur.

Most doctors will advise their patients to hold firm pressure on the puncture point to reduce swelling/hematoma or other problems. Since the penis is a very sensitive part of ones body, anything to reduce problems with are to be sought after!!

Make sure that your doctor knows how to inject the medication. Some really don't care about working with their patients to get the better results.

Lastly, make sure that you read all you can about Verapamil injections in that board forum listed in the home page index of boards when you log in as you research this project. VI did not work for many of us and there is certain amount of risk in getting them. So, do your homework before embarking on this journey!!

Hello Turin099,

It was my experience that the Dr. injected in a flaccid state.  The only time that an erection was induced was during the initial consultations to ascertain the amount of deformity that the disease had caused and during follow-up visits to determine improvement from the treatment.

Hope that helps,

My doctor was very clear that the only Verapamil injections that are worth pursuing is if the Verapamil is administered through Iontophoresis. In his opinion, any other technique is a crap shoot.

My injections were while flaccid.

My husband's injections are while flaccid. He gets Lidacaine then Verapamil.

What is the reason to get Lidacaine?
The Verapamil injections helped?

Same with me. The Lidacaine is given as a numbing agent prior to Verapamil injections.

Same here, numbing agent first, which hurt like a mf, and then the stabbing injections of the verapamil syringe into the plaque.  The protocol is 12 visits max.  I stopped at 6 visits when I developed another large pea sized plaque from the shots.  Also my penis was black and blue for a week after every single visit.  Xiaflex will be a walk in the park after my experience with Verapamil.  I pretty much gave up hope and just dealt with it for several years waiting for this promising developmental drug, Xiaflex to work its way through trials.

Thank you to all who post their results. I've read this from other posts and I am also convinced that the DOCTOR plays a HUGE role in the success of the Xiaflex shots.  Especially after my previous experiences with Verapamil shots.

Special note about getting Verapamil injections:

I have noticed that most guys are getting a numbing shot before the injection. Suggest that you  try getting the injection without the numbing shot. This way you only have on invasion of your penis and you do not have the extra hurting of the Lidocaine or whatever numbing agent the doctor uses.

It may take a bit of courage to go bare foot with the injection, but from my experience of 12 VI shots early on, the cold turkey way worked much better, at least for me. Did not have to get over the extra pain from the numbing agent.
