How does traction straightens your penis?

I understand that you will gain some length size,but i dont understand is how is it that the penis gets straight if you are applying equal tension and not really wearing in a modified way. I know some people modify it and put more tension on the bad side, but just like i said how is it that a penis gets straight if you are just putting equal tension...?
