I came across this link on reddit about a drug having been developed to fight Crohn's disease successfully.

I read here that stuff that works against Crohn's should also work for Peyronies Disease.. so I was wondering if you guys could comment on the implications of this.

Here's the link (translated by bing): Translator

Here's the wiki page for the drug- Vedolizumab, which is a monoclonal antibody: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vedolizumab

And here's the original study in English: The Binding Specificity and Selective Antagonism of Vedolizumab, an Anti-α4β7 Integrin Therapeutic Antibody in Development for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases

Blocking integrins prevents fibrosis. This is a great find. Except: where do we source this drug?

Vedolizumab (Entyvio) is used for Crohns, Ulcerative Colitis IBS, Rheumatoid Arthritis as an anti-inflammatory drug, We prescribe it in our office for these such diagnosis. It is used in the same manor as Humira, Cimzia and Remicade (all biologic medications) There has been a similar post in the past on this type on drug being used for Peyronies. I went to my group of physicians and spoke to them on this topic and was informed while these meds can be helpful in inflammation, they would not be a first go for treatment for Peyronies. You have to know also that each of these medications comes with a risk of getting Lymphoma and yes, we have had patients get Lymphoma while using these therapies. Just food for thought....

If I had Crohns, the last thing I would take is a biologic. They come with so many problems. Having a drop dead gluten free diet will clear up most issues of Crohns, IBS and UC because they are the most severe cases of gluten intolerance.
