Hello, I'm 59 years old.  I started getting peyronies about 10 months ago.  It started as a slight upward curvature and has progressed significantly. I went to doctors at a large university who kept rescheduling my appointment.  I didn't see the specialist until after my fourth appointment.  When I saw the specialist, he immediately suggested surgery. Of course, I decided against it.

I read some of the literature on this website and like the fact that there is some hope for treating this thing.  I ordered some of the suggested supplements and will begin taking them as soon as they arrive.

I live in the Chicago area.  Can anyone provide me with a list of some reputable doctors in the Chicago area?

Suggesting surgery after 10 months with Peyronies is an attempt to make easy money for the "large university" and the "specialist".
Expressing here my private opinion. You are still in the active face and have a lot what to do.
Can give us some more details regarding your Peyronies?
Can let us know regarding the supplements you are intending to take?
Regarding doctors in Chicago area, go to the link bellow and invest some time to see also the forum opinion regarding some doctors.

I agree at 10 months you are still in the active phase.  Surgery is not an option at this time.

Besides Dr. Levine, Dr. Ajay Nehra has recentely moved to Chicago from the Mayo Clinic. Those that have been to him recommend him highly.

Carquill- I have had this peyronies about as long as you, and I think that surgery has got to be the last option for me. After about 4 months of using many of the treatments found on the forum,  I feel like the curve has stabilized and perhaps started to get better.Be careful, research and don't be conned. Thanks for info.  I started taking some of the supplements suggested on this website (Acetly L-Carnitine, Ubiquinol, and L-Arginine) this past weekend.  It's to early for results but I'm hoping the supplements will show results.

I find it difficult navigating on this forum.  This is the first time posting to a forum and I find it somewhat confusing.

Thinking back, trying to remember what may have caused the onset of peyronie's, I recall using a synthetic lubricant.  My girlfrient is in her mid-forties and always insist on a condom.  The lubricant works well, however, that's around the time I starting noticing the upward curvature.  I won't name the product, but I have since thrown it away.  Maybe it had nothing to do with the product, it may have just been a coincidence or I may have suffered the injury during sex.  Regardless, I don't want to take any chances.

I appreciate having the wealth of information that this forum provides.  Hopefully, I can put this thing behind me.

I don't know what caused my peyronies, most of us don't.  It appears suddenly out of no where. My wife noticed it before I did while we were on a weekend outing.

I doubt that the condom with a lube caused the problem. If both of you are in a stable relationship and have a STD check you might change to another form of birth control. Most men don't like using them, I did not like them either.

I don't see where you are on the VED exercise. I highly recommend it even if you only use the single cylinder model. Old Man helped me work out this exercise and I have it posted in the VED forum. Any questions let me know, you can either send me a email or PM.

Carquill;

As I'm sure you have already gathered, surgery is regarded here as THE last resort; and only if your problem is so severe that you cannot function sexually.

The choice is yours, but if you do ever decide to go down the surgical route, be very, very careful who you let anywhere near your penis with a scalpel.

There is a wealth of info on this site, use it.

I agree be very very careful of any doctor that comes close to your penis with a scalpel.

I have posted an article called "Mending Broken Hearts" on the surgery board. In it Dr. Milam explains what types of surgery are recommended and at what stage of peyronies.  Do not have surgery while still in the acute phase.

The FDA is expected to approve Xiaflex September 6Th. You may be a candidate for it if you met the protocol. Then only let a very experienced doctor administer it. I do not recommend General Practice Urologist.  Find one of the great Male Sexual Function Specialist.
