New light on AUTOIMMUNITY ...

Autoimmunity ... Friend or Foe?  According to a new study that question may not be that easy to answer.  In the case of Peyronies, could it be that the same factors that are driving the inflammation may involve NECESSARY factors for cleaning up the mess?  This is just one illustration of how complicated normal body processes are.

Article essentially says nothing, about nothing. But it's important for that very reason, if anything at all.

"Autoimmune" disease is such an important thing to discuss, and research. Peyronie's is so terribly defined, and I mean terribly. The factors, the cross-diagnoses, wrong-diagnoses, whatever, just so much it drives us to madness. This topic is worth just as much discussion as all facets of the disease. Fascinating.

One thing I recall is that my Peyronie's started after getting badly sick in India. I had a urinary tract infection and a fever higher than I have ever had in my life. I shook violently and sweat so much, I needed multiple injections to return myself to normal. I remember when it hit, my penis bent in the bathroom in an Ashram in India...

What... what was that?! What happened? Nobody will ever know. Was Peyronie's a reaction to another infection? Since then I've had arthritis in both elbows in hands as well.

Love it, thanks George!!

I must say that two sentences that catch my attention:
QuoteResearchers found that every person has a unique autoantibody profile, which remains consistent over time.
It may be the reason we all have so "different" Peyronies disease and why if a treatment works for one, is not for sure will work for others.
QuoteAutoantibodies are proteins released by the immune system that attack parts of the body rather than targeting foreign "invaders."
This may be the real cause of Peyronies disease and many other diseases.

Perhaps, just perhaps, our immune systems can become "defective"?  If this is the case, there is new information regarding a possible solution:

Fasting triggers stem cell regeneration of damaged, old immune system

Date:  June 5, 2014

Source:  University of Southern California

Summary:  In the first evidence of a natural intervention triggering stem cell-based regeneration of an organ or system, a study shows that cycles of prolonged fasting not only protect against immune system damage -- a major side effect of chemotherapy -- but also induce immune system regeneration, shifting stem cells from a dormant state to a state of self-renewal.

I would also add that AHCC, a mushroom extract, is also famous for repairing a damaged immune system.

Well I'm doing the 72 hour fast just to see what happens.
This is an emotionally destructive condition, we all have it, let's be nice to each other.

Good timing Skunkworks, I haven't eaten any carbs for 2 days, and am fasting today too! Let me know how you feel.

George, AHCC is one of the most amazing things one could take, it's just expensive!

Paolo

Hi skunkworks, please post back after fasting with results please as I have never tried fasting.

Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect.

The hunger really gets to you on the second day, apparently the second 24 hour period is the worst of the lot. Will definitely post back but any report will be quite general and subjective in nature...

Thanks George999 for this, I have ordered a book on AHCC from Amazon to read up on  :)

Hi skunkworks, how did the fasting go, any benefits (generally)?

No didn't really notice much benefit at all.

If you seriously want to try fasting, it is best to go zero carb diet approaching it.  After three days of zero carb intake, you will likely get a headache, and begin to produce Ketones in your urine/sweat.  Urinary Ketones can be measured with a test strip you can get at most US drug stores...one brand is "Ketostix".  This is used as measure when doing a low carb/Atkins diet.  The benefit of doing this first is that you transition your body into burning fat while still eating.  Once you get Ketogenic dietarily, fasting is MUCH easier.  I've done it a few times over the years for various reasons, but not in an effort to improve my PDS situation...yet.

skunkworks

I'm very low carb and intermittently fasted already, maybe that is why I didn't notice much from the three day water only fast.

I've been fasting and juicing for the last week, I haven't done a perfect job but I notice that my pelvic region and penis ache less when my stomach is empty. Not sure what else to say, but I do sleep better when fasting as well or staying ketogenic. Feels great so far.

I have been thinking a lot about this too recently. I have been diagnosed with CFS and will be starting hepapresin soon and was worried about the strengthened immune response making the peyronies worse. However there is some theories that the hepapressin just corrects or modulates immune function. I will have it by tomorrow but I am insanely nervous to take it.

Paolo

onemorestep, I am taking IP-6 inositol hexaphosphate to boost immunity (see article link below), it seems to be helping particularly my lung function, I can exercise for longer on it.

I believe you can have NK cell tests done, I haven't but you might want to ask next time you see your Doctor or GP.

The article suggests NK cells benefit for ME/CFS  :)

Paolo, that's very interesting. I unfortunateynhave a few problems ingesting inositol. I have very odd neurotransmitter levels as it is and for some reason inositol creates a very strange state for me. Very high anxiety and panic but also a deeper range of emotion for spiritual experiences and connection with other people. It's quite weird. I was also taking it when I developed peyronies so I'm tentative to try anything I was on when it started. Very interesting though.

Autimmune disorders can lead to higher inflammation system wide.
The tunica is one of the worst places to have an inflammation. Its easily "trapped".
Its quiet possible that you could ingest "tons" of anti inflammatory medicine but it will never reach the place of injury in the the tunica.
Same goes with the building blocks of healthy collagen.
The body then encapsules it to contain it. (transdermal is a good way to get there)

boomerang

Hello I'm back.
Overall health is very important.
A new book by Dr Michael Mosley 'The Clever Guts Diet' has an absolute treasure trove of verified information about how our gut bacteria and fauna affect greatly eveything from our immune system, moods and diseases to our general health.

Micheal investigates things which people are saying affect our health to see if it is true.
He is very good.
The book is an eye opener and I defy anyone who reads it to ignore the dietry advice.
One conclusion is that fruit juice is fattening but fruit is much less so.
This is because fruit juice imediately exits the stomach into the small intestine creating a sugar spike which results in fat storage but fruit is retained and digested and released slowly.
He is an investigative TV doctor of some renown.
The human biome is far more diverse than our DNA and has a much greater impact on our health.

My theory is that diseases passed on through families may be via the biome and not always DNA.

This might be a great thing to investigate statistically.
Where people with unrelated DNA are brought up in different families.
Do they get the same diseases?
Either way this book is a must read.
I have rebooted my own biome and had great health improvements.
However I did not have the benefit of this new book to help.

I am at the moment using the penimaster pro and will add all the dietry suggestions from this book.
Any comments appreciated.

boomerang, for those who like whole fruit and fruit juice (me), I myself add olive oil, helps intake of fat soluble vitamins that your fruit and vegetable juices contain, stays in the stomach for longer (no sugar spike)  :)
