I am 29 and just got diagnosed with Peyronies Disease. I had a growing plaque (large almond size now) that was forcing an upward bend but I could live with it. Then it seems overnight I got some sort of plaque in front of my bladder that's causing a 45 degree turn to the left and more pain. Anyway, my urologist prescribed me for Verapamil cream from a company in Texas and an ED vacuum device probably to assist with straightening. Wondering if anyone has had any positive results with these. Of course the company selling the verapamil cream talked it up and mentioned over an 80% success rate. However, as with many other ailments, you go online and instead read horror stories.

ndfan33,

Welcome to the forum.

You're gonna get varying opinions about VED and Verapamil here. I've haven't used either protocol but others here have, to varying degrees of success. Someone will be along soon to address one or both.

My main emphasis is testosterone issues.

It would be good to know some of your history, such as, how did your Peyronie's start, i.e. the catalyzing event, if you know, and have you had a full panel of blood work done yet?

Please take your time and look around this site for information and in the meantime, hang tight, other members will be here to post their thoughts.

Good luck and God bless.

Thanks. I honestly have no idea how it started. I just remember feeling a pebble-size bump and it slowly took off from there. I have not had any blood work done yet.

MattFoley

That's OK because a lot of people here have no idea how it started. My situation is interesting because the Peyronie's started precisely after my testosterone dropped. So, I think you can understand why I put such a huge emphasis on getting blood work done. Please consider getting the blood work done and consider getting the results to the following:

Testosterone Free
Testosterone Total
Thyroid Panels (T3, T4, TSH)
IGF-1
CMP Profile
Lipid Profile
CBC w/Diff profile
PSA
C-Reactive Protein
DHEA-sulfate
LH
Estrogens
Vitamin D

Even if your Peyronie's is not caused by any relationship to testosterone, at least you'll know where you stand in a general health perspective.

If testosterone is an issue, there are plenty of supplements and even replacement therapy that you may wish to consider along with your doctor.

At this point, you need to speak to your doctor about getting a prescription for 1,200-2,400 mg Pentox and 5 mg/day Cialis and have an ultrasound done to determine exactly what's going on in your penis. You may wish to also consider adding the following supplements:

ALCAR Acetyl L-Carnitine -- 500-1,000 mg/day
Omega-3 EPA & DHA Fish Oil -- 2,126 mg per serving
Citrulline Malate -- 2000-6,000 mg/day
Vitamin E d-Alpha And Mixed Tocopherols -- 800 IU
Ubiquinol -- 100 mg
Tribulus Terrestris -- 1,200 mg
Vitamin D3

Many members here are currently taking one or more of these as part of cocktail of supplements and medications. You will find good prices for these supplements at www.vitacost.com.

Please feel free to ask as many questions as you need.

ndfan33,

We find very few if any that see improvement using Varapamil cream. It won't hurt to continue using it, we just haven't heard of anyone with any success with it. Several on the forum have seen some improvment using VED therapy. But you need to use it and follow the 26-week protocol for VED therapy. Normally VEDs are used by men who cannot achieve and erection. We recommend them here however for the treatment of Peyronies disease. You will find much information in this section of the forum.

Thanks. Ordering VED soon. I just don't understand the lack of success reporting with Verapamil cream when the pdlabs in Texas website displays studies revealing that the majority see drastic improvements. I doubt they can make that up. There has to be a disconnect.

ndfan33,

I called that company in TX and spoke to their pharmacy. They won't disclose what else is in their topical Verapamil. They say they have other chemicals in it that's supposed to act as a delivery system. I have no idea what their success rate is for Peyronie's.

The only study I have seen that makes claims for success is this one:

Topical verapamil HCl, topical trifluoperazine, an... [J Sex Med. 2007] - PubMed - NCBI

The problem is that the TX lab won't confirm or deny that they are using this formula. If I can get it as a covered prescription, I'll get it and perhaps it might work by Iontophoresis http://www.mypeyronies.com/iontophoresis-peyronies-treatment.html.

Again, I don't know. It's worth investigating, at least it is for me.

My  1st uro had the cream compounded from a local company it was 150mg. I used it twice a day for 3 months...no results, So he increased it to 300mg compounded by my local CVS due to a insurance issue. At that strength if the cream touched my testicles burned like crazy... after a month or two things looked unchanged. I now travel 2 hours from Connecticut to NYC Columbia Presbyterian I ve been getting Verapamil injections since September every 2-3 weeks...the results measured at a 33% improvement and looks it. I had a 53% curve downward. Now it is 20%. I use traction 2-3 hours per night and Vacuum device 20 minutes in the AM.
Pentox made my feet go numb, so I ended that after a month. I did colcrys twice a day for 8 months and was advised to stop using it by my NYC MD. I have another 90 days (every 3-4 weeks) for more injections. I take many supplements some twice a day and now 5mg of Cialis every day. It is a long process and I am not willing to give in.

A lot of personal opinion and some prejudice here but I view topical Verapamil as one of the biggest, most expensive scams ever pulled on Peyronies Disease patients.

These characters, some of which have been members of this and other defunct forums were in my view shady operators unaccustumed to telling the truth.

This report is old but interesting.  Add to that no success stories here from dozens that have tried it.

Do you think they simply made up their results about plaque and curvature reduction? How does anyone who makes money by fooling people with a disease sleep at night?
