Hi there does anybody know of any places that undertake ultrasound treatment in the UK?

Any help would be most gratefully appreciated

Thanks

stoker

I was recently sent by my doc to the local urology department where they booked me in to a shockwave/ulrasound session.
As i interpret from the bumph that came with the appointment it is a mobile unit that goes around hospitals. Get your GP to find out more for your area.

hi luke, the spire private clinic do the ultrasound treatment, i have a consultation in a few weeks so will let you know how it goes. not sure of its success rate as info is patchy and its quite expensive they 1500 for treatment and 150 per consultation. hope this helps.

Thanks guys - how has thetreatment gone so far?

I live in in London and arguably am supposed to have access to teh best peyronies experts around - yet none of them are willing to prescribe anything other than pentoxyfillin which has done nothign to date. they dont endorse any other treatments at all either ultrasound or otherwise. and seem to only want me to wait so that they can do surgery. i feel like it seems theyre only interested in how much money they can make - surgery being top pay day for them -maybe im being cynical but it feels this way.

Just wondering if either wlstet or stoker can let us know how they got on with the shockwave therapy and whether it helped at all?

Both were not active in the last few months so I don't think we will have some answers.
The only one recently active (15 March) is lukewill but I don't know if he made the treatment.

Hi James,
I've been in touch with Lukewill a few times and we've discussed shockwave treatment so I'm pretty sure he hasn't had any done yet. The other two forum members haven't posted in a few months but I was hoping they'd receive notification of a new message and let us know how it went.

Regarding the efficacy of shockwave therapy I've read reports ranging from useless to miracle cure. I posted about this one at the start last month but it never even received a response Shockwave therapy as first-line treatment... [J Endourol. 2005 Jan-Feb] - PubMed - NCBI

Having read several different reports my general understanding is that shockwave therapy does almost nothing to remove the plaque but it often helps with curvature, pain and circulation with little risk. It's not cheap though and like most things with Peyronies you would need a skilled operator.

ESWT was tried and discussed by a few members many years ago when the forum was relatively new.  Most were treated by a center in Canada, Toronto if I recall.  That center specifically promoted its benefits for treating Peyronies. The reports were disappointing from those few.  Nothing bad, just no improvement in deformity.

It is a little difficult for me to think that a treatment that has been  around and tried on Peyronies Disease for 8 years would be very well known with solid clinical data supporting it if it were successful.

I would like to add just one thing after seeing on the screen all the process of breaking my bladder stones.
The pulses (maximum 5,000 per session, the device limit as I understand) are braking small pieces from the stone by angular hitting, like shaving layer after layer.
My question is: What they are doing during a scar tissue treatment?

I doubt it, keep in mind the bladder stones are flushed away,  if you remove the scar tissue completely it still has to be replaced by new tissue, which inevitably will be new scar tissue.  So the stones can be removed with no consequence but it is not so simple with the scar tissue.

This might be helpful to some people but I've bought my own ultrasound for less than 100USD.  You can look it up on amazon.  I've done some research and the output of the frequency is enough to break up plaques.  I've been using for a couple months with a VED, and I am not so sure that it works.  Although the VED definately seems to have helped (moreso w/ erection quality than the breakup of plaques.  I've seen some improvements w/ shape but I'm not sure which of the two helped).  Anyone try Viaflex?   I'd like to go the natural route as possible but I hear that the longer you wait, things tend to denegerate w/ this condition.

I don't know what is Viaflex but I know that Pentox is definitely helping me.
Regarding Ultra Sound treatment, as I wrote before, I don't understand how is working (suppose to work) on the plaques :(. Very clear how on stones :)

I'm guessing by viaflex he means Xiaflex. And it hasn't been approved by the FDA yet. It's looking like early Sept for that decision.

Four months ago my urologist was very positive about shockwave therapy as an option for removing my curvature but the last time I saw him he said the plaque had become too soft and rubbery, so it wouldn't be helpful at this stage.

Some years ago I traveled to Canada for ultrasound or shockwave treatment.  Cost me airline ticket, hotel and as I recall, about $1,500 for the treatment.  It as advertised as a "Men's Health Clinic."  When I got there, it was a rather shabby office with an ultasound machine walled off with a bed sheet in an ajoining room.  They had a medical student there doing the treatment, who while adminstering to me was training another student so he could continue my treatment the next day.  I told the guy I would not submit myself to his student's treatment....wanted someone who had done it before.   Bottom line is that after all the time and expense, it did absolutley no good.  I think since there is no effective treatment of peyronies we are vulnerable to charlatans.

I would agree with you 110% that we are vulnerable to rogues and con men. The irony is that there is absolutely no trace of scarring now where my urologist wanted to do the ultrasound so at best it would have been a waste of money and possibly done some damage. For me the only "medicine" I have found to help is a combination of good sleep, exercise, meditation, time and vegetarian diet. This is helping where all the established treatments have failed. I now avoid all the doctors.
