hello all!
just here to introduce myself. i go by the username Steamer. i'm a 57 year old and my problem is pretty new. i haven't been to a doctor as yet, but will soon. i injured myself getting out of bed one night and stumbled while trying to avoid the dog lying next to the bed. my night time erection caught the mattress and i felt it kind of snap at the base. a week or so later i had a bruise pop up and it lasted a couple weeks. shortly after that is when i noticed the bend beginning. as of now i don't know what i'm in for at the urologists office and i have to admit to some discomfort. but i have to go. has anybody else felt this way? does the feeling last long? what am i in for as far as what's going to happen treatmentwise?

Sorry to hear your story but welcome to the forum.
First I would like to say that you should not feel any discomfort talking to the uro even if the uro is a female or have a female nurse.
They are used to see man's manhood and you should talk openly and inclusive about what you have, how you feel and your concerns.

In addition I am proposing you to read the forum as much as you can regarding treatments. Do not accept sentences like:
"Let's wait some six months because in 50% of the cases the problem resolves alone" because is not happening in reality!
or
"We have nothing to do as don't have cure for this disease" that is again not true.

In the acute stage (beginning of the disease) you have good chance to stop the progression and even revers the symptoms.
Pentox is the first line medication that the doctor should prescribe you.
I will say again, read much as you can on the forum to accumulate knowledge, it will give you a better picture regarding the possibilities to fight the disease.

I second James with all his advice.
If i may give you one of my own, when you go and see your urologist, bring a picture of your erect penis, where he can see the curvature. No urologist is going to induce an erection on first appointment. He might try and feel your plaque, but he probably wont feel anthing as it is not calcified yet.
So come well prepared, and see if he is the kind of saying: wait and see, take vitamin E for the moment.
Or if he is a peyronies specialist. Only by reading and learning about the disease you will be able to find an uro that will give you a good treatment.

And ... try to make a blood test before. bloodsugar and testosterone are important. (maybe your general practitian can prescribe you that) You should know that most peyronies patients have low testosterone levels. So if you have them tested before you go and see him, it will save you time. (maybe he is not even aware of that).
And if he is not a peyronies specialist, he can at least fix you testosterone levels, thats his job.

thanks for the responses. i'll read what i can and it all sounds like good advice. it's nice to be able to talk to someone with the same problem. i guess i've taken the first step, i made an appointment with a urologist but it's 2 weeks from now. could have been next week but there's no way i can take off work.

sorry to hear of your situation

you did the right thing by getting on this site. Ill put my two cents in.
Listen to these guys they have been there.
Get a good male function specialists doctor.
Read and understand As much as you can about peyronies.
DONT give up!
There are so many men on this site that are at different stages of diag and treatment of peyronies.
Just remember you are not alone with this.

i could tell right away this site is good. i'll be reading lots.
my wife was wondering why it took me so long to say anything to her, i had no good answer except to say i wanted to see if it was something other than that. i'm so surprised she hadn't noticed. it's odd how something like this could be so embarrassing that i had trouble tell the one i've been married to for 34 years about it.

i see on a number of posts that a VED is recommended. is this because of it being straight?

james1947

VED is recommended for two reasons:
1. It keeps the penis healthy by inducing in/out blood flow.
2. It may straiten the penis (especially the 3 cylinders VED). It takes long time, for some works wanders, for some not so. It is usually a part of a treatment regime that includes also oral medications and supplements.

i see. seems to make sense.

Its is strange that the one person you should be able to be yourself around is that one person hardest to talk to at times. I think we do this because we want to be the strong one in the relationship and not feel vulnerable.

I said the exact same thing to my wife she she asked me why i hadn't told her.  Really, i didn't know myself! I guess i thought i could just live with it.

i imagine we're not alone in that!
