Well, . . . I'm finally posting here.

I've had peyronie's disease for years (probably about 10). The deformity never bothered me much, and I only freaked out when I started experiencing ED problems a few years ago.

Flaccid
- I've got two dents on the right side of my shaft, mid shaft. (The proximal dent extends over on to my corpus spongiosum.)
- I've got two distinctive tiger stripes on the distal end of the right side of my shaft.
- My penis always wants to naturally hang to the left when I'm flaccid.
- I sometimes present an hourglass deformity when flaccid. (Especially when I'm cold.)
- I sometimes present some degree of distal tapering when flaccid.

Erections
- Glans remains fairly soft during erections. (Glans seems to be at it's best when I lie on my right side for some reason.)
- I have trouble maintaining erections, especially when standing.
- Still get NTEs but they aren't as strong as pre-peyronie's erections.
- Most of my deformities aren't noticeable when I'm erect. (ie. no hourglass when erect)
- I have a leftward curve when I'm erect that is noticeable, but not severe enough to rule out sex.

Psychological/Emotional Issues (Last two are exacerbated by peyronie's and ED concerns)
- Bipolar II
- OCD
- Anxiety

I'm currently in a serious relationship with a woman whom I hope to marry, but I'm terrified, because the last two times I tried to have sex (with a different woman, not my current girlfriend), I was unable to, although I have successfully had sex at times in the past with different women. I'm not currently undergoing any treatment for my peyronie's apart from abstaining from any masturbation or sexual activity going on 5 months now.

I often feel great sorrow, despair and hopelessness as well as guilt and shame about my condition. (The guilt and shame are because I believe I brought peyronie's upon myself through masturbation and sex that I shouldn't have been involved in.)

I'm here because I want to move forward and not just sit in despair and worry. My primary goal is to figure out if the erections I currently get are good enough for sex, and if they aren't, find a treatment plan that will improve them. I'm also here because I want to be able to talk to men who understand what I'm going through. My final goal is to help and encourage others.

Thank you to the moderators and operators of this forum. It's a blessing. Thanks also to all you courageous men who have posted here. It's been encouraging to read many of your posts.

I know you was preferring not to be here, but if you are here already, Welcome to the forum.

We all are here because we all have this horrible disease and we try to help each other to overcome it.
Most of man ones they have been cured just left (or they was here always just as guests) but we are lucky that we have the forum veterans that many have find already solutions for they Peyronie's and continue to be here to help others.

Regarding your situation, you have not stated if during the 10 years you have Peyronie's you have done some treatment and see a doctor.
You also didn't mention if to have an intercourse you have tried Viagra, Cialis or Levitra.

Your deformity when erect is not bad as I understand so please give us the information I have mentioned above to be able to give an advice.

During the past 10 years I have not sought any treatment, because my peyronie's disease didn't really present a problem until I experienced some ED about 3 years ago. (The reason for this is because I was almost always alone during those 10 years (no girlfriends). So I naturally assumed that having sex would not be a problem for me.)

I've seen a few doc's. The latest one was a uro in my home state of California. When I told him about my soft glans, he said that what I was saying didn't "make sense." He then told me that men with penile implants often have a soft glans and can still have sex, so I shouldn't worry about it. (This was probably about six months ago or so.)

I have been able to successfully have intercourse with two different women. I tried to have sex with a third woman about three years ago, and we were unable to. I believe the real problems may have started after the second woman.

Plow - just wondering if you took any medication for the psychological problems listed.  Some people have mentioned benzos and seroquel as possible causes (especially in young people)...also antibiotics like cipro or levaquin have been mentioned.

I will start quoting Skjaldborg:
QuoteAlso, since you are in California, get a referral from your GP or urologist to see specialist urologist Dr. Tom F. Lue at UCSF. He is one of the premier urologists on Peyronie's and my appointment with him and his staff was a turning point for me.
Try to see him as soon as possible.

Regarding intercourse with soft glans, it is definitely possible. Also with half erected penis.
The main points are that the vagina should be well lubricated, naturally or with a good lubricant and to find a position that is more easy to penetrate.
Many woman have very good natural lubrication if you invest enough time in making them ready before you try to penetrate. Oral sex before penetrating makes many woman very excited also.

Welcome to the forum Plowshare,

First, have you ever actually been diagnosed with Peyronies Disease by a competent urologist?

Next, if the main impact of your condition is not curve but erection, have you tried Viagra or one of the other common ED drugs? (I far prefer Cialis)

Finally, I too am interested in Mike's question because almost every psychotropic drug has some impact or erections with the possible exception of Wellbutrin and maybe a couple others.  What medication are you on for bipolar disorder?

Since ED seems to be the immediate concern I would refer you to the board on the forum dealing with that and specifically to the highlights of that board.  There is information there that is bound to at least help.

This may be a little off topic but referres to your answer.

There is a new anti depressant on the market. Viibryd has none of the sexual side effects of most anti depressants. It is great for those that have sexual side effects and can not take Wellbutrin.

Thanks to all, for all of the replies, encouragement and solid advice.

I've never been officially diagnosed with peyronie's. Having a man examine my penis has never been very exciting prospect for me, so every time I see a doctor, my anxiety kicks in, and I just shrivel down to almost nothing. There's no way that they can really see anything related to peyronie's when I'm all shriveled up like that.

The peyronie's self diagnosis comes from drawing pictures of the indentations on the right side of my penis. When the uro I went to saw the pictures I drew he said "that's scarring, there's nothing we can do about that." Also, when I get an erection, the scars basically become invisible, but they feel tender to the touch. I can feel a band of circumferential scarring. - Also the hour glass deformity that I experience when I'm flaccid and cold. To me, these all point to peyronie's disease, but hey, I wouldn't mind being proven completely wrong on that. :)

As for anti-depressants or other anti-psychotic meds, I tried a few back in college, about 7 years ago, but I haven't taken any since then. I was able to have sex after taking the meds, so I don't think they caused my ED.

I just saw my primary care physician today and she wanted to get me on anti-psychotic meds, but I told her I wanted to do some research first.

I haven't tried any ED meds yet.

Since we're on the topic of ED meds and treatment options, I think it's important to mention that I converted to Christianity about a year ago, and as such I no longer masturbate, or engage in pre-marital sex. My girlfriend and I are definitely in a serious relationship, but it's not a sexual one at this point, and won't be unless we get married.

Right now I'm still trying to figure out what to do.

The doc up at UCSF might be a good start. I'm less than an hour's drive away from there.

What would help a lot, would be instead of drawing your penis, you would photograph it while erect.
Doctors know that it is difficult (except when really needed - then with injection) for a patient to show them their errect penis.
To be able to diagnose and see what really must be done, Peyronies Disease specialists ask you to bring photographs.
One from the top, one from the side. With a digital camera it is not so difficult. And you can erase those that did not come out as expected.

With a drawing he will get the idea, but unless you are a real artist, he might miss a detail that is important. (And you might have exagerated the dent, or made it to small. So my suggestion, do yourself a favor and when you see a specialist, bring one or two photographs.
It will save you lots of time.

(Just my 2 cents )

Thanks for answering all of that.   One of the reasons I asked about meds was not exactly about ED (though long term ED & lack of nighttime erections can lead to Peyronies Disease).  Lamictal can cause stevens johnson syndrome, for example - which is very severe.  I know one person who took it (for one day) and just got really bad cold sores (and it happened again - after 1 day of Lamictal).  This is not SJS - but it shows that lamictal does something to healing processes and soft tissue.  Also, Cipro/Levaquin can cause abnormal collagen healing (tendon rupture). None of these things have been connected to Peyronies Disease because Peyronies Disease takes longer to develop & men are not that crazy about telling their docs their penises are bent...or would ever connect it.  Every time someone young comes on this board I really strongly think medications are involved.
