This forum has provided an excellent list of potential physicians for those who are pursuing a surgical approach to this affliction. One additional set of information with possible value is how to increase your chance of a successful surgery from the physician you have selected.

The link below is an article from Erik Peper, who is a PhD in Holistic Health. He had laparoscopic hernia surgery which had multiple complications and problems afterwards. He details some constructive ideas on how to increase your chance of a successful procedure.

Here are a few highlights - I would never have thought of some of these:

Schedule elective procedures early in the morning and in the middle of the week. Do not schedule procedures on Mondays, Fridays or in the afternoon. He claims (with documentation) that procedures performed in the afternoon have a higher chance of complications. People (myself included) have a tendency for better concentration in the morning. The prospect of a 1 p.m. surgery from a physician who just came from a big lunch is not appealing.

Schedule procedures at least one or two weeks before any holiday. Do not schedule surgery just before or during holidays. Medical staff also take holidays and may not be available.

Schedule procedures so you are released early in the day. This permits a return to the facility/practitioner in case complications arise.

Do not schedule elective procedures during the month of July in an academic teaching hospital. These institutions change personnel each year at this time due to the end of the academic year and experienced staff are replaced with new trainees. This is known as the July effect in the U.S. and the killing season in the U.K. (yikes) :o

See the article for the remainder - excellent information although a bit verbose.
