Just wondering if many of you are taking Antidepressants.

Have they helped ?
How long have you taken them for ?
What Antidepressant are you taking ?
Any Side Effects ?

I'm taking Venlafex XL 37.5 mg for 1 week now so kind of too soon too tell yet.

A few side effects like tiredness, anxiety etc but maybe that will pass.I'm not feeling too bad at the moment so thats something :)

I held off on trying Antidepressants for a long time.
But to be honest i was close to suicide a few times so i had to do something.

Thanks in advance for any replies

The fairly new AD called Trintellix is expensive but does NOT cause sexual effects at low doses. It comes in 5mg, 10mg, and 20mg.....
You start w 5 then work to 10........Going higher I wouldn't know about..........Good luck.......

Hi Ed,

Personnally I have been taking gotu kola for 2-3 months, which did seem to have a pretty good pro-focus and antidepressive/anxiolytic effect -yes, all this, but in a smooth way ! No side effects that I would have been noticing. I plan on going back to this plant in a few weeks!
- 35 yo, Peyronies Disease with chronic pain, general hourglassing with girth and length loss since 09/01/17.
- Pain almost cured with Hirudoid cream and diet/lifestyle changes (see my topics on this); deformity still here, but partly reduced with traction + VED.

Cymbalta and Wellbutrin have both been very helpful for me for several years for depression.  CBT therapy helped tremendously for anxiety as well.

Thanks for the replies !
I'm reading up on some of these

For the last year all i was thinking 24/7 was about my erectile dysfunction.
I have gone batsh1t crazy

But yesterday i actually for the first time in about 10 months laughed and had a good day
And forgot about erectile dysfunction

Over the last year i thought that would never be possible

It would be interesting to know what kinds of antidepressant drugs are of best use for people with peyronie's and ED (especially whose of these drugs interfere less or, if better, don't interfere at all with erectile function).

To be honest, I'm surprised by the fact that there are very few reports on this forum on this whole subject, considering how depressing the disease is and what's reported on scientific papers with regards to the psychological effect of this crappy  disease (I once read a paper where it was estimated that about 50% of people who receive a diagnosis of peyronie's disease seek professional help for clinical depression).

My Euro recommended Trintellix and I'm on it. !0mg. No sexual side effects........I believe one of the few that doesn't cause those side effects.......
Expensive though.........

The Zoloft has well known sexual side effects. Orgasm is almost impossible to reach. Wellbutrin is often prescribed with it because 1) it counteracts the sexual side effects of the Zoloft somewhat and 2) It effects a different part of the brain than the Zoloft. Add those to high blood pressure meds, beta blockers, Prilosec and mild pain meds and it's very little wonder that I'm where I'm at...

I was depressed, I think I have Adhd, I went to a psych three months ago. Wanted to try something, he gave me Wellbutrin. Wellbutrin actually improved my libido, I touched myself. By handling my penis, I eventually awakened my problems being Peyronie and apparently a prostatitis. In the meantime I found out my liver is in a really bad shape and I had to dramatically change the way I eat, stopped drinking completely. Sadly I have to take drugs for prostatitis, and those don't help with liver. I also got a shitload of bills all together.

So to answer you: I am handling this situation pretty decently, so apparently Wellbutrin is helping me greatly.

No antidepressant will solve the problem if you cant actually have sex, or simply lost too much size. It will just freeze your brain so that you can't act and then think you are okay. None of this is okay, not at all. And antidepressants sadly wont solve anything. I just wanna solve this thing. Give me a bit of hope. That is what all we want.

Hrvat21

What are you doing to solve your problem?

TonySa

Antidepressants can help lift the hopelessness which often paralyzes us from taking action on treatment and keeping w it.

Farikiger, what do you mean with "reversed your scarring"? Did it improve or it's totally gone? If improved, of how much?

Please share your diet bro..  ;D

I don't think its reversed. It just stopped progressing. The diet basically consists of no high glycemic carbonhydrates.
Think about it,this disease isn't caused by injuries. It is caused by an impaired healing functionality of the body(mostly genetic). So if you want to heal better just keep your insulin levels low.

JohnR

It's not a "disease", it's a condition that actually IS most usually brought on by an injury (whether you were aware of it or not). The scar tissue or "plaque" is what the body used to heal the injury. Unfortunately, since scar tissue isn't stretchable, we wind up drawn up and pointed in these weird ass directions.

Did you try restoring size yet?

Hontas

Just try to have fun as much as you can

I ve read of people here who recovered size with traction device .. maybe its worth giving it a shot?
Whats your opinion?

TonySa

Yes, it's possiblebbut not guaranteed.

2 best experts in my country disagrees with this a lot. Don't try to irritate it they said.

But other peyronies experts (americans europeans) seem to recommend it

ok, then try to fit your penis into your pants while flaccid but turtling. It always made me worse, so i guess traction will make it worse as well so I am not hyped about it. It's your choice after all doctors only advise you stuff

Hrvat21

There is a whole study about guys that used traction and i think all of them restored at least some size in 3 months. You obviosly should have penis in relatively ok state, but traction seems to be working

Steering to the left

I've tried several different AD over the years for other medical issues, especially after open heart surgery (cardiac depression).... and yes definitely one of the side effects of almost all the ones I've tried were ED. But at my stage of Peyronies, the last thing i want is for it to wake up and get hard. shoot, i have trouble going to the bathroom flaccid, sadly sometimes...well most of the time, to keep me from over shooting the bowl, i just sit down. i mean, I'm a grown man, and I've never had an issue ringing the toilet until this wonderful issue came into my life. sorry...ran off topic there, but back to the AD, they do help, sadly they take so long to get into your system, then its the whole getting the dosage right. It can be frustrating, just don't up on them. If they don't seem to be helping, tell the doctor as soon as you can. well that was my 2 cents... Good luck with whatever you decide to do!!!

Not here to complain about my conditions but to LEARN and HELP when i can ! !

it is too soon for me to draw any conclusion, but i wanted to share real time my worries about bupriopion. Recently i started bupropion for add (adhd) and depression. I used the standard minimum treatment of 150mg daily in the morning, and it was the wellbutrin drug.

It worked in the way i snapped out of depression, and most importantly it worked clearly on my add even if it did not any miracles, but it improved my behaviour and patience so much... I noticed this not that much while i took it, but the effects have been clear to me after i quitted it. Yes, i quit wellbutrin between a day and the other, without a soft gradual stop. I stopped it because i was under the impression that it might have caused my peyronie to come back. I can't be shure about it, but i am shure that peyronie hit me back after i started wellbutrin, after a few days i started wellbutrin i first had a painful prostatitis which i have still. After one month of taking it i wanted to try to stop it and see how it would have affected my peyronie. In the meantime i had started taking antiinflamatory drugs for prostatitis. I reached a peak in pain in the penis shaft even after appearently i prostatitis pain was gone.

After one week off, pain for peyronie was going down. In the meantime i was taking also a new pill which is basically an integrator, called peironimev (vit E, paraminobenzoate, avocado and other stuff).
Now i don't know if this was simply the working of the antiinflamatory drugs + integrators, that naturally and gradually diminished pain and disconfort in the shaft.
I know that one day i took again wellbutrin and at night i had disconfort again on the shaft.
The 3 days after that i did not take it and now i have no shaft pain, even if appearently some prostate pain is back!

I don't know what to think, and i don't want to warn anyone nor believe this very much. But i have to say that bupropion might have a link with peyronie, pain or fibrosis i don't know, but in my experience it might have this link.

I plan to take again one pill of bupropion tomorrow and see if the pain in the shaft comes back. If it does, i will tell. As for now i just wanted to share my concerns that might be mislead or totally wrong, but are worth the consideration.

As a side and general note, as i previously wrote in the forum, bupriopion ASIDE from this possible pain and fibrotic effect on me, shurely brought back a lot of libido, which lead me to touch myself maybe too much, and i might have awoken peyronie by touch and not only by the drug, so this is worth considering... I am afraid that it might be both problems with bupripione, i hope to be wrong.

I hope to be wrong because i can tell the difference that made for my add, i started again to be impatient with people in a hurting and straightforward way, talking soon without thinking... taking the pills clearly brough back people to me, not taking it clearly is making me a worse person and i am at risk to loose everybody again.

As you indicated, if it brings back your libido, you're more likely to handle your dick and notice the pain w erection.  Maybe ask for diclofenac sodium gel Rx for the pain, apply to dick 2-3 x's Per day.  Sounds like the bupropion is very helpful for you so I'd really try to get back on it.

Hi guys,

Thomas, thanks for your input; even if it's still theoretical, it's always precious. For prostatitis, which I have been suffering for 6 years now (and I'm 31), what works best to my mind is:
- Banish coffee, tea, beer, white wine
- Moderate as much as you can alcohol and white sugars; diminish tobacco/nicotin, and stop ASAP
- Eat only whole healthy cereals stuff (so yes, I had to stop eating normal pasta every day...), the best of which being brown rice and quinoa; eat a lot of vegetables, especially brocolis and cabbage.

--> This only keeps 70% of my symptoms at bay. It took me at least 5 years to understand this, and I'm still testing... So if I can save you that time of unhappiness, I would be glad!

Gabriel i was thinking this today. I was texting my uro asking how the ved was going, i texted him back reminding him that pain in prostate came back at the end of antiinflammatory cycle.

I was all thinking about wellbutring, but thruth it is, i kept a "monastic" life for three months for this liver problems they found on me before it all started. I did not touch a drop of alcohol, stopped smoking, eating only vegetables cooked without grease. some pasta or rice daily always with no cooked greases. I kept my food completely healthy for 3 months. And i forced myself to drink a lot of wather.

Prostatitis came back with buproprion, maybe. But i also have this variable i was not considering and i have considered now: in the last few days i changed a little bit my alimentation, i reintroduced some foos with shugar and grease. Nothing excessive, maybe an ice cream one night, a pasta with ragu another night, stuff like that. It happened...

What you tell me is giving me a precise idea of a struggle to be really really precise on what you get inside your body if you have to deal with prostate pain.

I will stop coffee immediatly tomorrow.

I am going on with wellbutrin, yesterday and this morning. Some pain but bareable, until i don't know what is what it's not easi to choose what habits to change.

Hey Thomas,

I'm very happy to see that you are yourself beginning to understand how your prostatitis works, and how to fight it! This is the beginning of great progress, no doubt at all!! I personnaly observed the same thing as you: just a little bit of this (cream...) or that (sugars...) can trigger a new prostatitis flare. Also, I forgot yesterday to quote you two important stuff that I had to moderate for this condition: masturbation (once a week max), red meat (once a week too) and dairy products (farewell fior di latte, mozzarella, parmigiano.......). However, let's rejoice because olive oil (and generally all good insatured fats) does not seem to be negative at all!

--> With a few months of this regimen, as I said I reduce my symptoms of maybe 75% - 90%. I am now able to indulge myself once in a while (not so rarely actually) a big carbonara plate, a great ice cream or chocolate orgy, etc. The key is, I think, look for and discover new healthy daily food that suits you and that you will progressively find very tasty so you don't get bored. For me, it was brown rice with garlic oil, goji berries, marrow berries (very useful for urinary symptoms!!!!!!), salmon, quinoa, and many more. And trust me, I was a heavy smoker and a heavy italian eater (pasta absolutely eveyday for 28 years in addition to everything), so you can do it too!!

All the best!
